Weekend Activity: Netflix & Chill

No matter if you want to LITERALLY Netflix & Chill, or Netflix & Chill as it has come to be known in pop culture, there’s something for you in this post.

If Netflix & Chill (in either capacity) is your usual routine, continue on because rituals are important in your relationship.

Remember, in the beginning, Netflix & Chill was a solo activity. Something you would do to relax in the evening.

In many of my posts I write about the importance of taking a little break from your relationship in order to spend time alone and to spend time with friends.

If your partner is not available this weekend, or if you were planning to have some time to yourself, or if you were planning to get in some friend time, you can still take this weekend activity and adapt it to your particular situation.

Here are some ideas for your Netflix & Chill weekend activity:

  • First of all, you may want to decide which version of Netflix & Chill you will be partaking in this weekend. Will you be watching a show or movie with your partner, or will it just be playing in the background? Will you be on your own and taking this time to relax, or will you be spending some quality time with your friends? There are many options out there. Decide if you want to relax on your own, with your partner, or with friends.

  • Your choice in show or movie will depend on the version you chose above. Choose something that reflects the setting and mood. If you are relaxing alone after a hard week at work, you may want a feel good comedy. Or, if you are feeling as though your week was lacking in substance, you may want to watch an informative documentary. If you are watching with friends, there’s probably a movie that you all have been wanting to see together. And depending upon where you are with your partner, there are a wide variety of genres to choose from. If you two need to reconnect, it probably doesn’t even matter what is playing in the background.

  • If you can’t decide, pick an obscure movie or a movie you think will be the absolute worst. I say this because I once watched a really bad horror film with two friends. This has been several years ago and we still say, “Remember that awful movie we watched?” And we laugh about it. Even though sitting through the movie was not very pleasant and a bit weird at times, it’s an experience that we look back on fondly. The same can be true for a terrible movie you watch with your partner. Who knows? This movie may become an inside joke between you two throughout the years. Just think – you never say, “Remember that decent movie we watched three years ago?”

  • Surprise your partner with their favorite snack before logging into your (or someone else’s) Netflix account. Do you like to bake their favorite cookies? Do they have a spot around town that carries their favorite snack? Here in Asheville there are many awesome places to get notable snacks such as a box of chocolate truffles at French Broad Chocolates, gourmet potato chips at The Gourmet Chip Company, yummy ice cream sandwiches at Sunshine Sammies, and tasty popcorn at Poppy Handcrafted Popcorn.

My favorites on Netflix right now are Stranger Things, Portlandia, Sense 8, Forks Over Knives, Orange Is The New Black, Gasland, Louie, Blackfish, and stand up comedy by Ali Wong, Chelsea Handler, Aziz Ansari, and many more!
